過去の映画の引用が好きなブライアン・デ・パルマが監督した「アンタッチャブル」。彼が引用したのが、エイゼンシュテインが監督した「戦艦ポチョムキン」。

"The Untouchables" is directed by Brian De Palma, who likes to quote past movies. He quoted "Battleship Potemkin" directed by Eisenstein.

ロシア帝国が革命に呼応する市民を虐殺する中、赤ん坊を載せた乳母車が、階段を落ちて行くシーンがそれで、異なる映像を交互につなぐモンタージュ理論で、世界に影響を与えました。その撮影場所が、ウクライナ第３の都市オデーサ（オデッサ）。たった一つのシーンで、その名を世界に知らしめ、世界の映画に描かれた場所の中でも、鮮烈な場所の一つ。

It was a scene where a baby carriage with a baby rolls down the stairs when citizens are slaughtered by the Russian Empire. The scene affected the world as the practice of a montage theory that alternately connects different images. The filming location is Ukraine's third-largest city, Odesa (Odessa). The scene made the name known to the world, and Odessa has become one of the most vivid places among the world's movies.

階段のシーンは史実ではなくて、エイゼンシュテインが、場所からのインスピレーションで映画のイメージを想起したよう。「オデッサの階段」と呼ばれた場所は、今は「ポチョムキンの階段」という名称になり、映画の名声で、今度は、イメージが場所を想起させる、場所とイメージの強い相互関係が生まれていました。

この作品は、ロシア革命を記念するために革命政府が依頼したプロパガンダ映画。20世紀初め、映画が描いた市民の蜂起は、21世紀のウクライナでは、市民の投稿動画やインタビューに代わり、オデーサ（オデッサ）市長が、街を守るために悲痛な覚悟を語るインタビューが、強く胸に響きます。

The staircase scene is not historical, and Eisenstein got inspiration for the image of the movie by the place. Meanwhile, the place called "Odessa's Stairs" is now called as "Potemkin's Stairs". The image reminds of the place. A strong interrelationship between place and image is created. 

This work is a propaganda film commissioned by the Revolutionary Government to commemorate the Russian Revolution. Citizens' uprising  that a movie expressed was replaced by videos and interviews posted by citizens in Ukraine in the 21st century. An interview with Mayor Odesa (Odessa) talking about his heartbreaking determination to protect the city resonates in the heart.
